All Advice Is Judgment, and Most Is Condemnation

Some people just love to give advice, to tell other people what to do because they’re soooo smart. I used to be one of those people before I learned a better way.

When someone gives you advice, they’re really judging you. Maybe they are sincere and give you advice out of love; maybe they’re sarcastic and condescending when they tell you what to do.

Then there are those people who love to say, “I told you so!” when things go wrong in your life. This is condemnation. They judge that you aren’t smart enough to make good choices, and they condemn and dismiss your problems.

I stopped judging and condemning people. (If you want to know how I did that, just ask me and I’ll tell the story!)

Instead, I listen to what survivors and secondary survivors want for their lives and help them get there. I work alongside people, not against them. I learn their strengths and magic and show them how to amplify their skills into transformation.

I love my job.

How do you feel when other people “give advice” and tell you what to do?
